Glass by Patricia Williams

The glass shattered
And it was completely full
When it fell off the shelf
Now the water is a pool

Now it is everywhere
All the water and the glass
And no one is at fault
That it got woefully smashed

Now it is everywhere
Solid and liquid mass
And it can't be cleaned up
Because of present and past

Now it is everywhere
Cant get to the broken shards
Until the water is dry
But it’s just not in the cards

Now it is everywhere
Can't dry up the waiting pool
Shards'll stick in the towel fibers
And score skin like steel wool

It is Murphy's law
Perhaps it is better to leave it
So it can't hurt  anymore
There is mercy in bereavement

It is Newton's law
Perhaps better to remain inert
By delaying the action
Also delay inevitable hurt

The glass shattered
And it was completely full
The world goes on again
But maybe it's lost a fragment of soul
